Choosing a therapist can be daunting. It can be difficult to know whether someone is the right fit for you and your child until you have had the chance to meet, either face-to-face or online.
Before qualifying as a therapist, I worked for many years as a teacher, supporting children and young people across a wide age range. This gave me a strong understanding of school life and the pressures children can experience within the education system, as well as insight into how these challenges can feel from a child’s perspective. It also deepened my understanding of children’s emotional and psychological development and the different ways they communicate their needs.
For 25 years, I ran an inclusive children’s theatre company. Working creatively with children and young people over such a long period showed me the importance of self-expression, confidence, connection and a sense of belonging. It also helped shape my ability to create safe, containing environments in which children can feel comfortable expressing themselves and exploring more complex feelings.
My work with children and young people led me to train as a psychotherapist. I have a BA (Hons) in Psychology and a BCP-accredited Master’s in Child, Adolescent and Family Psychotherapy from the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust, a specialist psychotherapy training institution.
As well as my private practice, I work in a local primary school, providing weekly psychotherapy sessions for children.
